CAADRIA 2018

The Chair of Individualized Production conducted a workshop at the CAADRIA 2018 conference in Beijing, China. Hosted by Tshingua University, this workshop explored methods for robot assisted assembly of plasma cut steel structures. The event brought together an international team of professionals and students, from architects, to engineers, and fabricators. Parametric design was combined with digital fabrication, and robotic processes to create a forest of branching steel structures. A Kuka robot was used to mass customize the cutting and assembly of individualized components. Robots were moving metal, sparks were flying, and students learned to weld steel together to create some amazing results! The conference culminated in an exhibition and presentation by team members Rushi Dai, and Ethan Kerber as well as presentations by Prof. Dr. techn. Sigrid Brell-Cokcan who gave a keynote lecture and hosted paper sessions on robotic Fabrication and Automation.
