An exciting day at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (HHU)
An exciting day for our Robeton II project team and our students within the M1 Prototyping Project, RWTH Aachen University to Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (HHU) During the fieldtrip, the students have pitched their projects to the Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW) representatives, Kevin Reschke and Christian Oelke, who are directly involved in the renovation and deconstruction of the HHU buildings. This was an excellent opportunity to receive realistic and relevant feedback from a real-life setting.
Together, we discussed what we can combine to actively contribute to circular economy and how to provide solutions for challenges in the building industry. The students then visited the HHU buildings and gathered information on precast reinforced concrete structures for potential reuse within the research framework of the Cluster of Excellence CARE - Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction.
Furthermore, we had the chance to test on an existing building the semiautomated robotic concrete cutting process developed in the Robeton and Robeton II research projects. In the Robeton project series, we are investigating how safer conditions for workers, automated deconstruction and sustainability through reusability of concrete elements can be realized in future. The Robeton project is funded within Zukunftbau, Bundesinstitut für Bau-, Stadt- und Raumforschung (BBSR) and Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Stadtentwicklung und Bauwesen (BMWSB) (project number 10.08.18.7-22.15, project number 10.08.18.7-21.11).
The Robeton II project is a collaborative effort between, led by Prof. Sigrid Brell-Cokcan and her team Carsten Kamp, Emre Ergin, Martin von Hilchen and Nico and the Institute for Building Materials Research at RWTH Aachen University (ibac) led by Prof. Anya Vollpracht and her team Christian Helm and Christian Felten.
The M1 Prototyping Project is a collaboration between the Chair of Individualized Production in Architecture, and the involved researchers Iremnur Tokac Celikyay, Pranav Shevkar, Chu Han Wu, Prof. Sigrid Brell-Cokcan and Prof. Martin Claßen, Jan Hendricks from the Lehrstuhl und Institut für Massivbau as a future collaborators in the Cluster of Excellence CARE.
