Cloud56

Cloud56 is a research project aiming to combine innovative network technologies by integrating virtualized Radio Access Network (CloudRAN) with industrial hardware on one platform. This will transform mobile infrastructures into virtual entities, keeping only antennas physical. the CLOUD56 framework offers benefits for 5G-enabled Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications, including economic, environmental, and functional gains, and simplifies future 6G upgrades. The production and prefabrication of components and modules in the construction sector is becoming increasingly complex and challenging.

The individualized and agile nature of construction processes creates a high number of opportunities for flexible and modular IIoT applications for single piece smart prefabrication. Project CLOUD56 aims to develop a groundbreaking Open CloudRAN for the virtualization of 5G and upcoming 6G mobile networks. The CLOUD56 framework’s requirements are shaped by various use cases, from industrial metrology and steel production digitalization to prefabrication in construction, robotic perception, and medical technologies. As the chair of Individualized Production, our primary goal is to apply our expertise in flexible production systems and construction within CLOUD56’s communication environment.
